After reading a little blurb in Men’s Health Magazine in the Fall of 1991 that stated the most marathons run in a single year was 87, I decided I could top that number. A month earlier I had just completed my Shore To Shore In 104 cross country trek from San Fran to D.C. for Habitat for Humanity at a 26 mile per day, 6 day per week, for 15 weeks pace, so I was in shape and ready for a new goal/challenge. Thus 93 IN ’93 was born.

Also in 1991, as I trained/planned for this upcoming goal that was over a year away from execution, I came up with a simple idea of how to C.O.P.E. with putting together such a daunting project…..single-handedly.

Here it is:

Concepturalize…..the idea

Organize……pull all the details together

Personalize……make it your own

Excersize……..go into action

It worked. I ran my 1st 26.2 miler on New Years Day 1993 and ran my 93rd 26.2 miler in NYC in early November. (There were still 7 weeks left in the year, so I added 11 more and ended 93 IN ’93 with 104 26.2 milers)

I learned a lot and in the last 16 years I’ve used C.O.P.E. to accomplish many other things great……and small.

So join me in the TRAINING ROOM with a goal or an idea, and I’ll help you exceed even your own expectations……just as I did.

The marathon is more than just running 26.2 miles. It is a commitment to a way of life… (at least for the duration of the training and the running of the event). It is a very personal learning process. The marathon allows you to discover “who you are” from more than just a physical perspective. The emotional and spiritual aspects of “marathoning” are equally as much a part of the process as the physical. The marathon requires commitment, self-discipline, progressive levels of achievement, reflection, self-analysis, and some blood, sweat, and tears. (Tears of both toil and triumph.)

My advice to all marathon runners, from rookie to racer: Embrace the experience!
